Mackenzie Dern vs. Virna Jandiroba Set For UFC 256

Mackenzie Dern will compete again in 2020 after agreeing to fight Virna Jandiroba at UFC 256 on December 12th at a destination still to be confirmed.

Dern is coming off two ‘Performance Of The Night’ wins in a row earlier this year against Hannah Cifers and Randa Markos, who she finished by kneebar and armbar respectively in the first round.

That’s helped banish the memory of having suffered her first career loss back in October of last year against Hannah Cifers, leaving her with an overall 9-1 record.

However, the former BJJ ace is still ranked only No.14 in the strawweight division, so there’s still a lot of work left to do if she’s to live up to the early hype that was placed upon her when she first joined the UFC back in 2018.

As for Jandiroba her recent run is virtually identical to Dern’s, having won her last two fights in a row against Mallory Martin and Felice Herrig – and both having came by way of submission.

Prior to that the No.15 ranked Jandiroba also experienced the first loss of her career when she came out on the wrong end of a unanimous decision verdict against Carla Esparza.

Dern vs. Jandiroba joins a UFC 256 card that will be fronted by another female fight as Amanda Nunes seeks to defend her featherweight title against Megan Anderson.
