Matt Hughes Update: Friend Takes Him For Sushi In Wheelchair

Finally, some news on UFC legend Matt Hughes health – and thankfully it’s an overwhelmingly positive update, with one of his close friends showing the former welterweight champion in a wheelchair being taken out of hospital to go for some sushi.

Hughes looks like he’s lost a lot of weight and his friend, Tony Zucca, stressed that the star still has a long way to go in his recovery, but the fact that he’s even got this far less than two months after his truck was hit side-on by a train is nothing short of remarkable.

It’s been weeks since there was an update on Hughes condition and the last one had suggested that he was off his ventilator and showing some slow signs of improvement.

With that in mind, it’s a big surprise to now not only see the 43-year-old fully awake, but back out in the real world (albeit just for a short while) and smiling for the camera.

Of course, as much as a picture tells a thousand words, there’s surely a lot more to this story than we’re seeing here, and both mentally and physically there’s no doubt he still has a big fight ahead of him, but what we have here is undeniable proof that Hughes’ walkout song was right all along – “A country boy can survive.”
