Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Vs Ovince St. Preux Set For UFC Fight Night 117

A rematch between light-heavyweight stars Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Ovince St. Preux has been announced for UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan on September 23rd.

The two’s previous encounter took place back in 2014 at UFC Fight Night 56 in Brazil, and on that occasion it was OSP who emerged with his hand raised just 34 seconds into the fight via TKO.

St. Preux’s form has slipped since then though, losing four of his next seven fights, though he is coming off a submission victory over Marcos Rogerio De Lima last time out that ended a three-fight losing streak.

As for ‘Shogun’, he’s been far less active than his opponent, fighting just once a year, but most importantly he’s won all three of his bouts against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Corey Anderson and Gian Villante.

‘Shogun’ had been calling for a chance to fight in Japan for the first time since the end of his run in PRIDE more than 10 years ago, and he’ll surely be relishing the chance to avenge the loss to OSP at the Saitama Super Arena, where he has previously racked up some of the biggest wins of his career against the likes of Alistair Overeem, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
