Nick Diaz is currently unable to compete in mixed martial arts while his lawyer attempts to get him out of a potential year’s suspension due to testing positive for marijuana following his last fight, but if you can’t wait to see him compete again then we’ve got good news for you.

According to his manager Cesar Gracie, Diaz will compete at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo in California on May 12th, and though he originally had hoped to enroll in one of the event’s tournaments the organizers plan to place him in a BJJ superfight.

No opponent has yet been announced, but regardless of who it is, given the level of interest in everything Nick Diaz does these days this is sure to be keenly observed.

Diaz is of course a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt of some repute, though we don’t often see it displayed in the Octagon these days due to his impressive striking abilities which have helped him defeat a string of high-level opponents in MMA competition.

  1. Hope he wins. Love him or hate him. He is a raw fighter. And a real person (hence the marijuania use).
He lost to Carlos Condit. But many people believe Carlos ran the entire fight. He did run but at the same time, carlos out-pointed Diaz. It would be an ugly ending to Nick Diaz’s career if he truly retired after that fight based on losing to a runner during an interim championship fight. I mean, even if you hate Diaz…..it still doesnt sit well knowing that he lost to a runner in such an important fight. So the best of luck to him.

  2. Agreed. In hindsight it worked out well that Diaz lost to Condit since he could now be facing that lengthy drugs suspension. Hopefully if all goes well we’ll get GSP Vs Condit in November and then Diaz can face the winner next year.

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Diaz in the Octagon, he is only 28 after all so I’m sure he’ll be convinced to come back sooner or later. Until then it’s nice to know that he’ll be able to satisfy his competitive instincts via the Jiu-Jitsu angle (and his triathalons of course).
