Nick Diaz may finally step back into the Octagon next year if negotiations to have him fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 235 in Las Vegas on March 2nd go according to plan.
That’s the word according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who claims his source is UFC President Dana White.
If so this would be the first time in four years that the 35-year-old diaz will have fought in the Octagon, with his his last fight being a unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva back at UFC 183 in 2015, which was later amended to a no-contest after Silva tested positive for steroids (Diaz also tested positive for marijuana).
Since then Diaz has had to wait out an 18-month suspension for his positive marijuana test, and then also continue to serve a technical suspension due to unpaid NSAC fines.
Diaz also served a further year’s suspension from USADA, which ended in April of 2018 due to failing to provide his whereabouts for random drug testing on three separate occasions.
As for Masvidal, he has been out of action for a year following back-to-back decision losses in 2017 against Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson.
Before that the former lightweight had racked up victories at 170lbs against the likes of Donald Cerrone, Jake Ellenberger and Ross Pearson.
So far Diaz Vs Masvidal is the only fight linked to the UFC 235 event in March.
