Olympic Wrestling Medalist Sara McMann Signs For Strikeforce

2004 Oympic wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann is the latest female fighter to sign for the Strikeforce promotion.

The 31 year-old freestyle wrestler is considered one of WMMA’s top prospects at this moment in time, and has so far produced an unbeaten start to her career, going 6-0 to date.

Fighting at 135lbs she’s considered a potential contender for current champion Ronda Rousey, but personally I hope they don’t rush her into that fight too soon.

While she’s got a great foundation for the sport with her wrestling background and also has competed successfully in submission grappling tournaments, she’s not yet as dominant a force in the cage as Rousey and there’s no harm in giving her an extra couple of fights first so she can continue to develop her overall game and gain valuable fight experience.

It looks like Strikeforce are thinking along the same lines as she’ll be competing on the Strikeforce: Cormier Vs Mir card in November, though her opponent has yet to be named.
