A bantamweight title fight between current champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling has been announced as the co-main event for UFC 256 on December 12th.
The fight will see Yan looking to defend his title for the first time after winning the belt vacated by Henry Cejudo with a fifth round TKO stoppage of Jose Aldo back in July at UFC 251.
That extended Yan’s unbeaten run to 10-fights, seven of which have come inside the Octagon in less than three years.
Along the way Yan has defeated a number of other bantamweight notables, including John Dodson, Jimmie Rivera and Urijah Faber.
During the same period Sterling has also been in fine form, having compiled a five-fight winning streak that includes beating Jimmie Rivera, Pedro Munhoz and most recently Cory Sandhagen, who he submitted in just 88 seconds.
That left Sterling ranked at No.1 in the bantamweight division and paved the way for his title shot.
Yan vs. Sterling joins a UFC 256 card that will be headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson, while Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza vs. Marvin Vettori and Mackenzie Dern vs. Virna Jandiroba have also been confirmed for the show, which is likely to take place in Las Vegas, though that’s not officially confirmed yet.
