Quillan Salkilld put the rest of the lightweight division on notice tonight at UFC Fight Night 284 by submitting Mateusz Gamrot in the opening round.

Round One

The lightweight main event is underway in Las Vegas!

Low kick from Salkilld. Now a jab. Solid calf kick for him. Gamrot comes in and Salkilld stings him with a jab. Gamrot stops for a moment, but then commits to a takedown anyway. Salkilld partially stuffs it though and then is able to carefully work back to his feet and clinch up against the cage.

There’s a sudden scramble and Gamrot drops down with a leg lock. Salkilld trying to get some leverage to break free and then is gradually able to get his limb free.

Salkilld back upright nicely. Salkilld able to get a takedown of his own now. He works around to the back. Gamrot able to create a scramble, but Salkilld remains on top.

Salkilld securing the back now and working for a rear-naked choke. Wow, Salkilld rolls with this choke locked in tight, forcing Gamrot to tap out at 4.25mins of the opening round!

Salkilld had already impressed multiple times in the Octagon, but getting the better of Gamrot on the mat is his biggest accomplishment yet and will propel him to the next level in the UFC’s lightweight division.
