Julie Kedzie, who recently retired after a brief stint in the UFC, has been announced as all-female fight promotion Invicta FC’s new matchmaker.
“We are thrilled to expand Julie’s role in the Invicta FC organization and have one of the pioneers of our sport assume the pivotal role of matchmaker under her wing,” Invicta president Shannon Knapp said in a statement to confirm the appointment. “There is no one more qualified than someone like Julie, who has lived and breathed MMA for the last 10 years, to take on the responsibility of nurturing our athletes, building our roster and creating the most exciting matchups possible for our live event series.”
Knapp, who used to work behind the scenes at the UFC before starting Invicta FC, will take Kedzie under her wing and show her the ropes as the promotion looks to rebuild and push forward in 2014 after a recent deal that saw 11 of their strawweight fighters signed up to the sport’s leading promotion.
The 32 year-old had already been providing color-commentary and interviews for Invicta FC so she’s already familiar with the promotion and has a wealth of experience inside the cage with just shy of 30 professional fights against some of the biggest names in WMMA including Gina Carano, Miesha Tate and Shayna Baszler.
Kedzie has confirmed that despite her new role she will also continue to work at Greg Jackson’s gym in New Mexico where she’s served as the famed coach’s personal assistant for a number of years.
