Former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza made short work of UFC fighter Ed Herman tonight, serving notice that he’s going to make a significant player in the UFC’s 185lb ranks.
‘Jacare’ looked confident from the start and 90 seconds in he landed a slick, swift takedown. Before he could take advantage of being top however Herman landed a few illegal upkicks with forced ‘Jacare’ to complain to the referee and get a stoppage.
The referee let Herman away without taking off a point and didn’t reset the fighters back on the mat, so that turned out to be a bonus for Herman who didn’t want to be on the mat with the BJJ star anyway.
Unfortunately for him Souza also appeared to have the edge on the feet too and he took the fight to him, pushing forward with a flurry of strikes and following up with a front kick to the face that landed.
Herman seemed a little stunned and ‘Jacare’ moved in and landed a huge double-leg takedown. Almost immediately be began working for a kimura submission and cranked it easily behind Herman’s back forcing the tap with 3.10mins on the clock.
Great work from ‘Jacare’ both on the feet and on the mat and he’s going to be a very welcome addition to the UFC’s middleweight roster going forward.
