Another fight, another quick finish by submission as Josh Barnett stops Nandor Guelmino by arm triangle choke at Strikeforce’s last ever event.
Barnett’s been suffering from the flu this week and so he was in no mood to have this fight go on any longer than it had to as was shown by the fact that he immediately looked to close the distance and took Guelmino to the mat.
After a brief period on the floor Guelmino was able to get back up when Barnett failed with a leg-lock attempt, but it was only a momentary respite as Barnett was immediately back on him and swept him back down.
He lands straight into full mount and Guelmino makes a schoolboy error by leaving his arm in just the perfect spot for Barnett to slide in an arm-triangle choke and produce a quick tap with 2.11mins of the first round gone.
So Barnett’s gameplan went according to plan, but despite barely breaking a sweat in winning the fight his future is now unclear as he’s had bad blood with UFC boss Dana White in the past and so it still hangs in the balance whether he’ll make it back to the promotion or not.
Hopefully he will as he deserves to be there and would certainly spice up the upper reaches of the heavyweight division.
