Tony Ferguson appears to have Michael Chandler in mind for his next fight and he’s accused the former title contender of deliberately trying to delay the match-up being put together.
“There’s My Bitch!!! @MikeChandlerMMA,” Ferguson wrote on Twitter. “The Brass @danawhite @ufc Relayed Your Message Saying You Would Be Ready For Me April/June. Looks Like Your Trying To Delay That Ass-Whoopin’ I Owe Ya For Cutting In Line Kid- It’s Wrestling Season MF, Man Up- Champ.”
Ferguson’s call-out comes at a time when the 37-year-old is looking to bounce back from a three-fight losing streak against some of the division’s top talents, Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush over the past couple of years.
Before that Ferguson was riding an impressive 12-fight winning streak though and it seems he still believes he can prove his doubters wrong and climb back to the lightweight summit.
A win over Chandler would certainly help his cause, even although the former Bellator lightweight champ is similarly coming off losses to both the aforementioned Gaethje and Oliveira.
And the good news for Ferguson is that it seems like Chandler is on-board with the idea of fighting him, though it’s still not a done-deal at this stage.
“Oh Tony,” Chandler wrote. “There’s only a handful of guys in this game I truly respect…you’re one of them. Only because of your tenure, not your stature or your current presence in the division. I’ll beat you from bell to bell. Pray for a merciful ref. We shall see if this fight happens.”
