UFC 197 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 197 event in Las Vegas, the recipients of the evenings $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the preliminary bout between Danny Roberts and Dominique Steele, which delivered a competitive battle from start to finish, with steele starting better and hurting his oponent early, but then Roberts proving to have a bit more cardio down the stretch as he edged his way to a unanimous decision victory.

The first ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was handed to flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson who reminded the world why he’s one of the very best pound-for-pound fighters in the world against Henry Cejudo in the co-main event of the evening. Johnson delivered some terrific knees and an elbow from the clinch, leaving the former Olympic wrestling gold medalist staggering across the cage mid-way through the opening round, before another knee sunk him to the canvas and lead to the TKO finish.

Earlier in the evening former TUF: Latin America Yair Rodriguez had assured his ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus by producing one of the best knockouts of the year so far against Andre Fili, rendering him unconscious with a flying roundhouse kick mid-way through the second round to extend his unbeaten run in the UFC to five fights.
