UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik has stayed true to his word and got a ‘209’ tattoo in honor of Stockton native Nate Diaz after losing a bet at UFC 196.

“I’m going to say it here for the masses to hear,” Anik stated on ‘The Anik And Florian’ podcast last week. “I will get the area code ‘209’ tattooed on the inside of my forearm, if Nate Diaz beats Conor McGregor. I got Conor in Round 1.”

While his bet was made in good fun, word of Anik’s bet quickly got around and when Diaz produced the upset of the year by submitted McGregor he demanded that the commentator make good on his word.

“Yo! Yo! Yo!” Diaz shouted post-fight. “Jon Anik better get a motherf—ing ‘209’ tattoo or ima whoop his little ass.”

For the record, Diaz actually retracted that statement at a media scrum later that night, confessing that he was only messing around.

“…I’m just kidding,” Diaz chuckled. “Jon Anik, you ain’t got to get no tattoo. Just don’t be talking.”

Nevertheless, it turns out that Anik was being serious about the bet, and he’s just showed off his first ever tattoo on social media.
