Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 292 event in Las Vegas the winners of the $100,000 bonus awards were announced.
Four ‘Performance of The Night’ were dished out on this occasion, including one for main event winner Tom Nolan, who was out-grappled by Renato Moicano in the early stages of the fight, but then went on to battle his way back into it and was rewarded with a third round TKO finish.
That being said, there’s no doubt that Nolan was handed a massive favor by a highly controversial intervention from ref Dan Miragliotta mid-way through the second round when he suddenly opted to stand the fighters back up for a lack of activity while Moicano was in dominant back control with his body triangle locked in. Nolan seized that lifeline by aggressively engaging on the feet and was rewarded when he landed a knee to the head that dropped Moicano and then followed up with ground-and-pound. Moicano made it to the end of the round, but was clearly depleted and Nolan continued his offensive onslaught to hurt him again, before managing to get on top on the mat to land fight-ending punches and elbows to win by TKO.
37-year-old Julian Erosa marked his retirement fight in style by KO’ing JeongYeong Lee with a big right hand just 91 seconds into their prelim fight.
Recent Contender Series recruit Joe Kropschot also earned a performance bonus after he dominated Nick Klein with his grappling and sealed the deal with an armbar finish in the 2nd round.
Also earning a performance award was Lucia Szabová, who proved to be too much for Tainara Lisboa in all aspects of their fight for the best part of three rounds before delivering a ground-and-pound finish.
