Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 68 event in New Orleans the recipients of the evenings $50,000 fighter bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was in fact the only scrap on the main card to go beyond the first round between Brian Ortega and Thiago Tavares. It was an entertaining and competitive battle that had a bit of everything thrown in with Tavares having the edge with takedowns and top control, but Ortega really stranding out with his offensive submission work before he turned up the heat with his striking in the third round to produce a late KO stoppage.
Dustin Poirier deservedly earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus after he completely dismantled Yancy Medeiros on the main card, rocking him several times and manhandling him around the Octagon before the referee stepped in to save his opponent from further punishment mid-way through the opening round.
In a night that was filled with exciting finishes, heavyweight Shawn Jordan also stood out enough to claim a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus, catching Derrick Lewis unawares with a highlight-reel hook kick and then following up with ground and pound on the deck to finish the job early in the second round.
