UFC On FOX 5 Lands Schaub Vs Johnson, Swick Vs Brown

Two news fights have been added to the UFC’s final FOX show of 2012 on December 8th.

First up, in a heavyweight clash Brendan Schaub will attempt to break at two-fight losing streak when he comes up against Lavar Johnson who made a strong start to his UFC career with two wins after leaving Strikeforce, but has since lost via armbar to Stefan Struve.

Joining them will be Mike Swick, fresh off a triumphant return to action on the last FOX card after a two year absence. This time he’ll be taking on Matt Brown who just a year ago was on the brink of being released from the UFC, but has since rejuvenated his career with three consecutive victories in the Octagon.

These are both good match-ups, but they might struggle to make it onto the main card given that there’s a five-round title fight between Ben Henderson and Nate Diaz already lined up for the show alongside two other major fights in Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Vs Alexander Gustafsson and BJ Penn Vs Rory MacDonald.

However, we only need to look at the events of last week to know that a card like this can quickly become severely weakened due to call-offs and injuries so it’s a smart move to have some solid bouts like these waiting to step up to the televised show if required.
