While some top level fighters appeared reluctant to face Jon Jones on short notice, Vitor Belfort begged the UFC to give him the chance to fight for the light-heavyweight title even though he was at the time preparing for a middleweight bout.
In a new video taken during Belfort’s last week of hard training before fight week, the fighter talks about his decision to take on such a big challenge.
“I come from the old school, Carlson Gracie time, you know? I know it’s this new breed, they study, ‘Oh, I need to study my opponent,’ but listen, the hardcore fans, they understand my mentality. It’s all about the sport, but you know, it’s just a choice and when this thing came knocking at my door I took the opportunity. That’s how I am. And now I’m enjoying the process. I’m enjoying the journey.”
