Footage has emerged of Anderson Silva sparring in 2015 as he prepares to face Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on January 31st.
At one moment in the video Silva is seen dropping an opponent with a combination of punches followed by a knee.
It’s also interesting to note that Silva still appears to favor keeping his hands low and using his reflexes and head movement to steer clear of strikes. It’s a style that’s produced some of his most memorable moments in the Octagon as he avoids his opponents punches Matrix-style, but relying on it too heavily also cost him dearly in his first fight with Chris Weidman and even Chael Sonnen found a home for some of his punches in their first encounter.
It’s a risky strategy for the legendary fighter who’s now 39 years-old and it’ll be interesting to see how it stacks up with Diaz’s volume-based boxing game when they meet in the Octagon in just a few weeks time.
