Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal had an intense rivalry that extended not just before and during their infamous UFC fight back in 2019, but afterwards too.
Even following his record-breaking flying knee KO of Askren just 5 seconds into their fight, Masvidal still seemed to have bad blood towards him, and for a long time it seemed like that was something that was never going to change.
However, that all flipped on it’s head last year when Askren was suddenly rushed to hospital suffering from a staph infection that quickly evolved into an alarming battle with severe pneumonia, leading to him spending a prolonged spell in a coma before undergoing a life-saving double lung transplant.
Askren staring death in the face and then undergoing a gruelling but ultimately successful recovery against the odds had a profound affect on Masvidal, who suddenly had a newfound respect and admiration for his former sworn enemy, and was even inspired to make changes to his own lifestyle afterwards.
That led to Masvidal stating publicly that he wanted to bury the hatchet with Askren and speak with him face-to-face, and over a year later that’s now happened, with the two fighters sitting down for a wholesome hour long conversation that you can watch below.
