Watch Video Announcing UFC’s Return To Ireland In October

The UFC have released a video announcing that they will be returning to Dublin, Ireland for UFC Fight Night 77 on October 24th.

“Ireland has been such an important market to the UFC and we couldn’t let a year go by without delivering another spectacular event for the fans in the capital,” Joe Carr, the UFC’s international vice president said. “We’re looking forward to showcasing both local and international talent at the event and hopefully getting the decibel counter higher this year.”

At this stage no fights have been announced for the show, but given that it’s only a ‘Fight Night’ event that would surely rule out any possibility that Irish superstar Conor McGregor could be headlining the card as he’s too big a draw for the promotion at this stage, even though timing wise it would be feasible assuming he doesn’t get badly injured in his upcoming interim title fight at UFC 189 on July 11th.

It makes sense for the UFC to return to the Emerald Isle either way though since there’s clearly a passionate fan base there and they have a number of homegrown fighters like Cathal Pendred, Neil Seery, Norman Parke and Joseph Duffy who could take up spots on the card.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
