Following his unsuccessful interim bantamweight title bid at the weekend Urijah Faber said that he believed that Renan Barao may have broken his rib early in the fight, and a subsequent x-ray has now confirmed that to be the case.
“Congrats 2 @RenanBaraoUFC, He’s a tough dude,” Faber wrote on Twitter. “Broke my rib in the 1st with a great knee. Thank u 4 all the support.”
While the rib injury clearly didn’t help, Faber did state at the UFC 149 post-fight press conference that it wasn’t the only reason that he was unsuccessful against Barao, acknowledging that he has trouble with fighter’s like him and his Brazilian counter-part Jose Aldo who have a good sense of distance and utilize leg kicks well.
