Yoel Romero Out Of ‘Jacare’ Souza Fight At UFC On FOX 15

One of the best fights of the month between Yoel Romero and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC On FOX 15 has had to be scrapped after Romero picked up an injury.

The middleweight bout between two of the divisions top contenders had been set to serve as the evening’s co-main event next weekend in New Jersey, but unfortunately Romero has torn both the ligament and meniscus in his knee.

This is the second time a fight between the two Brazilians has been cancelled, with ‘Jacare’ pulling out last time after being struck down with pnemunonia.

Romero is currently on a five fight winning streak in the UFC and TKO’d Tim Kennedy in his last Octagon outing to rise to No.6 in the divisional rankings.

Technically ‘Jacare’ is in pole position for the next title shot at 185lbs as the current No.1 contender following a seven fight unbeaten stretch with four of those wins coming insde the Octagon.

However, with the 35 year-old former Strikeforce champion now without an opponent it now looks even more likely that next to fight for the title will be the winner of UFC On FOX 15’s main event which sees Luke Rockhold up against Lyoto Machida.

At this stage it’s not clear whether the UFC will look to find a late replacement to keep ‘Jacare’ on the card, but with only a week’s notice it’ll be tough to find someone suitable to take the fight.

If they are unable to do so then it’s likely the preliminary fight between Jim Miller and Beneil Dariush will move up to the four-fight main card, while Cub Swanson Vs Max Holloway will serve as the new co-main event.
