Zhang Weili KO’s Joanna Jedrzejczyk With Spinning Backfist At UFC 275

Zhang Weili knocked out Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a stunning spinning backfist in their rematch tonight at UFC 275 in Singapore.

Round One:

Missed leg kick from Jedrzejczyk as she works off the back foot. Weili looking for a punch. Jedrzejczyk does land a leg kick now, but Weili counters with a punch.

Both throw a big punch at the same time. Brief flurry from Jedrzejczyk inside and lands a leg kick afterwards that knocks Weili off her feet for a moment.

These two are getting right to it early with strikes, but then Weili drives in for a takedown and lands it. Immediately she starts landing ground and pound. Weili showing her strength as she controls Jedrzejczyk as she tries to get out. Weili bringing her to the mat again.

Jedrzejczyk able to scramble up and attempts a takedown of her own, but Weili ends up on top. Now Weili is taking full mount and is landing heavy strikes on top. Elbows dropping down here and Jedrzejczyk can’t afford to take too many of these.

Jedrzejczyk trying to improve her position and does get her guard back, but Weili is blasting her again with elbows.

Credit to Jedrzejczyk for managing to get back up to her feet. She throws a big right hand that just misses.

Another intense exchange of strikes and Jedrzejczyk lands a good punch, but Weili wears it well and then lands another takedown, but Jedrzejczyk gets free immediately as the round is drawing to a close.

Round Two:

Leg kicks for Jedrzejczyk to start the second round. Both swing big but miss at the same time. Another leg kick for Jedrzejczyk. Body kick attempt from Weili as Jedrzejczyk throws a punch.

Both looking for kicks now. Overhgand right for Jedrzejczyk and a body kick from Weili. leg kick for Jedrzejczyk, body kick for Weili.

Another solid leg kick for Jedrzejczyk. Now a punch to the body. She lands over the top with a right hand too.

Side kick to the body from Weili. Missed punches at range and then into the clinch where Weili lands a few punches and then tries to work for a takedown against the cage that doesn’t pay off. Jedrzejczyk manages to slip away.

One-two from Weili. Now a kick from her. Jedrzejczyk presses forward aggressively, but though Weili misses with a spinning kick on the counter, she them immediately goes into a spinning backfist that lands heavily and Jedrzejczyk drops face-first to the mat for a stunning KO victory at 2.28mins of the second round.

An amazing win for Weili then, but also the end of an era for former champion Jedrzejczyk, who announces her retirement in the Octagon after the fight.
