Alexander Volkov was able to get the better of Sergei Pavlovich over 15 minutes of stand-up action today at UFC On ABC 6 to win comfortably on the scorecards.
Round One:
Inside leg kick for Volkov. Another inside leg kick behind a mmissed jab from Volkov.
Body kick from Volkov. Stiff jab for Pavlovich. He lands a left hook too. Leg kick and a body kick from Volkov.
Heavy step-in right hand from Pavlovich. Inside leg kick for Volkov. Both land a punch in close.
Pavlovich’s nose is bleeding. Body kick for Volkov. Long jab for him too now. Punch lands for Volkov and Pavlovich responds with a body kick.
Body kick from Volkov. Right hand for Pavlovich. Jab from Volkov. Pavlovich with a jab now. Jab again for Volkov. Now a body kick.
One-two for Volkov. Jab for Volkov and one from Pavlovich. Left hook from Volkov and a kick as the round comes to an end.
Round Two:
Volkov with kicks to the inside and outside of the calf. Now a side kick to the body. Another inside calf kick now.
Body punch for Pavlovich. Body kick from Volkov. Stepping right hand for Pavlovich. Kicks to the inside and outside of the calf again from Volkov but then eats a solid punch on the counter.
Brief flurry of punches from Pavlovich in close as Volkov tries to strike back in the danger zone then backs off.
Body kick for Volkov. Jab for Pavlovich. Body kick for Volkov. He tries for a high kick but it comes off the guard.
Side kick to the knee from Volkov and then a hard straight punch. Pavlovich with a good punch. Outside leg kick from Volkov.
Pavlovich wades in with a hook and another punch behind it. High kick attempt from Volkov. He lands a low kick as Pavlovich looks for punches upstairs.
Inside leg kick for Volkov. Pavlovich moves his leg away just in time to avoid another kick as those blows take their toll on his lead leg.
Round Three:
Leg kick for Pavlovich. Inside leg kick from Volkov. Pavlovich loads up on a punch but comes up short.
Pavlovich goes for an overhand but it comes off the guard. Jab for Volkov. Solid punch for Pavlovich. Kick and punch for Volkov.
Another heavy punch from Pavlovich as he tries to up his aggression. Straight punch connects for Volkov.
Right hook for Pavlovich. Left hand for Volkov. Flurry off the guard from Pavlovich. Jabs from Pavlovich. overhand attempt from Volkov and Pavlovich lands a punch in response.
Pavlovich clinches up and walks Volkov over to the cage. He backs up with 30 seconds to go. Straight right for Pavlovich. He lands to the body. Kick from Volkov is met by punches fromm Pavlovich. Pavlovich lands a straight punch and presses forward for more, but Volkov lands a head kick and follows up with punches as the round ends.
Decision:
Volkov controlled the fight well from range here with solid kicks to the calfs and body along with a nice jab to largely keep Pavlovich at bay on his way to a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x2, 29-28).
