A heavyweight clash between Alexander Volkov and Alexander Romanov has been booked for UFC Fight Night 221 on March 11th in Las Vegas.
The 34-year-old Volkov comes into the fight off the back of a TKO victory against Jairzinho Rozenstruik back in June of last year.
Prior to that the 8th ranked Volkov had suffered a first round armbar submission loss against Tom Aspinall in the UK, following on from wins over Alistair Overeem and Marcin Tybura in 2021 alongside a loss to Ciryl Gane.
Now Volkov goes up against the 32-year-old Romanov, who came out in the wrong end of a majority decision against Marcin Tybura in his last fight back in august of last year.
That marked the first loss of the 13th ranked Romanov’s career, having previously compiled a perfect 16-0 record, including five wins in a row in the UFC, albeit against lower tier opposition such as Marcos Rogerio de Lima, Jared Vanderaa and Chase Sherman.
Volkov vs. Romanov joins a UFC Fight Night 221 card that’s headlined by a bantamweight fight between former champion Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili, alongside Raphael Assuncao vs. Kyler Phillips, Said Nurmagomedov vs. Jonathan Martinez and potentially Anthony Smith against an as-yet unconfirmed opponent.
