Aljamain Sterling vs. Petr Yan Rematch Targeted For UFC 267

Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and the man he controversially dethroned, Petr Yan, are reported to have verbally agreed to a rematch at UFC 267 on October 30th during the promotion’s latest trip to Fight Island.

Sterling has since confirmed the rematch with his rival on Twitter.

“October 30th in Abu Dhabi, all the talking ends!” Sterling wrote. “Sleepyhagen or Needleshaw, winner gets the next whooping after I put away Yan in 3!

Only thing that matters in this sport is blue-collared hard-work! No Dana White Privileges ever given to me 💯 #AndStill! #Georgia 🇬🇪.”

The two first fought for the title at UFC 259 earlier this year, and Yan seemed to have the upper-hand, but then landed an illegal knee in the fourth round, which Sterling was unable to recover from, which led to his opponent being disqualified and ‘The Funk Master’ claiming the bantamweight title.

Many were eager to see an immediate rematch between the two, but the plan had to be put on ice after Sterling elected to undergo neck surgery to fix a longstanding issue, so the bout now takes place eight months after their first bout.

Sterling will be looking for his sixth win in a row when they do look horns again, while Yan was on a seven-fight unbeaten run in the Octagon prior to his disqualification.
