A rematch between Amanda Ribas and Mackenzie Dern is in the works for UFC Fight Night 249 in Tampa, Florida on December 14th.
By the time they step into the Octagon it’ll have been over five years since they first fought back in October of 2019, with Ribas emerging victorious via unanimous decision on that occasion, handing Dern the first loss of her career in the process.
Since then the 30-year-old Ribas has had a mixed bag of results, going 5-4 in the Octagon, including claiming notable wins over the likes of Viviane Araujo, Virna Jandiroba and Paige VanZant. Her last appearance came back in March when she suffered a unanimous decision loss to Rose Namajunas, leaving her ranked No.7 in the strawweight division.
Despite having taken time out to give birth to her first child, the 31-year-old Dern actually has had a few more fights than Ribas over the past five years, compiling a 7-4 run. Along the way she’s beaten Tecia Torres, Virna Jandiroba, Nina Nunes, Angela Hill and just a couple of weeks ago picked up a decision win against Loopy Godinez to reach No.8 in the rankings.
Ribas vs. Dern is currently the only fight attached to the UFC Fight Night 249 card, which potentially could serve as the final event of the year, though that’s not confirmed at this stage.
