Anderson Silva Says He Has Three More Fights Left Before Retirement

At the age of 43, Anderson Silva still seems as passionate as ever about fighting, but he’s signalled that the end of his career is now almost in sight.

“I have three more and then it’s done, it’s over,” Silva stated during a media day ahead of the first of those fights against Israel Adesanys at UFC 234 early next year.

Silva isn’t looking for easy fights to cruise through the remaining fights on his contract however.

Dana White already enticed him to accept the Adesanya fight by revealing that if he emerged victorious he would be granted an immediate title shot at middleweight, but even beyond that Silva still dreams of another blockbuser fight.

“At his point in my career, I believe that the good challenge is the superfight,” Silva said. “I talk to {UFC president] Dana [White] about Georges St-Pierre, about McGregor, about McGregor especially because McGregor is a challenge, this fight. I just talk to Dana a lot about the fight that’s very interesting, fight to this guy. Because he’s an amazing fighter and a legends in this sports and let’s go see. That’s a good game, superfights, and it’s very interesting for my fans.”

Truth be told though, while for many years Silva has pursued a fight with GSP, it seems that nowadays he’s almost resigned to the fact that it probably won’t happen.

“I believe Georges St-Pierre does not take the real challenge, personal. He just tries to do something easy for yourself, but this is Georges St-Pierre. He’s so smart. That’s the game, that’s the business. He’s a business man.”

However, Silva sounded more positive about the possibility of fighting McGregor, although the catchweight he has in mind would far exceed anything the Irishman has attempted up to this point.

“I believe 180 is good for me and McGregor,” Silva said. “So I just wait because I don’t control this. This is the question for Dana but maybe that this is amazing fight for the fans.”
