Conor McGregor Footage Shows Him Appearing To Throw First Punch Before Being Attacked In Octagon

The violent scenes that marred the end of UFC 229 last night were so chaotic that it was hard to see exactly what happened that led to Conor McGregor being attacked in the Octagon by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammates, but fan video footage sheds new light on the situation.

The video taken from the crowd shows the end of the fight, followed by Nurmagomedov throwing his mouthpiece at McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis who is outside the Octagon and then jumping over the cage to attack him, which results in a brief scuffle between the two.

What happens next wasn’t caught on the original UFC footage however as McGregor tries to vault the cage too, just as one of Nurmagomedov’s coaches is doing likewise.

McGregor then appears to punch him in the face while they are on top of the cage and then returns to the Octagon.

Meanwhile, other members of Nurmagomedov’s crew have made their way inside the Octagon and it’s at this point that they appear to retaliate by going after ‘The Notorious’, who landed a punch on one assailant, but was sucker-punched from behind by another and then ate several punches against the cage before security staff intervened.

Three members of Nurmagomedov’s team were arrested after the event according to Dana White, but that’s unlikely to be the end of the matter and it’s likely that both fighters themselves could find themselves in a great deal of trouble as well as a result of their actions post-fight.
