Conor McGregor has revealed that negotiations are underway with the UFC for his next fight and the current thinking is that it will take place in the summer.
“We’re currently in negotiations,” McGregor told ABC-7 while attending St.Patrick’s Day celebrations in Chicago. “We’re aiming for July – we’ll see what happens. I am staying ready. This morning I was doing incline sprints on the treadmill on my program, the McGregor F.A.S.T. program, staying in a hotel room. So we’re staying on it, getting work in as we go.”
McGregor almost certainly means UFC 239, which takes place during International Fight Week in Las Vegas on July 6th.
However, at this stage there’s no certainty as to who his opponent would be, with Donald Cerrone appearing to have been a frontrunner at one stage, though talk about that match-up has since cooled.
Max Holloway is also known to be interested in a rematch with McGregor, and given that he’s fighting Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight title next, it’s quite possible that the winner could then go on to fight the Irishman in July.
