Dan Ige floored Nate Landwehr twice tonight at UFC 289 on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Ige pumps out the jab to start. Kick from Landwehr comes up a bit short. Right hand gets through for Ige.
Ige steps back to avoid a kick and then moves in to land a bit rip to the body.
Nice punch for Ige and then one in response from Landwehr . They clinch up for a moment in the center of the Octagon then break apart.
Ige punches to the body. Low kick for Landwehr. Now a leg kick from Ige. Ige steps into a right hand.
Landwehr’s kicks still coming up short. A couple of punches for Ige. He connects with the jab. He lands to the body. Hook from Landwehr in close.
Leg kicks exchanged. Landwehr punches to the body and misses with a knee upstairs. Jab for Landwehr.
Ige comes in and Landwehr greets him with a jab. Ige with a big left hook that staggers Landwehr back to his knees for a brief moment, but he rights himself quickly in the final seconds of the round.
Round Two:
Ige punches to the body. leg kick for Landwehr. Both look to throw punches in close for a moment. One-two for Landwehr.
Calf kick from Ige. Single-leg attempt from Landwehr, but Ige shakes it off. Ige punches to the body and Landwehr threatens with a knee.
Brief clinch for Landwehr and knees to the body land. Jab for Landwehr. Ige works his jab too. Leg kick for Landwehr but then eats a nice punch from Ige.
Crisp punch to the body from Ige. Hard right hand from Landwehr. Again Ige connects to the body. Ige bleeding but then blasts Landwehr with a left.
Jab for Landwehr. Now the jab lands for Ige. Ige throws hard in close and Landwehr responds.
Right hand gets through for Landwehr. Good punch to the body for Ige. Now a right hook. Front kick to the body from Landwehr.
Knee in close to the body from Landwehr. Jab for Ige. Lead uppercut from Landwehr and tries to flurry behind it.
They jockey for position in the clinch against the cage. Ige blasts Landwehr with a thunderous left hook and drops him for the second time in the fight.
Landwehr badly hurt but as Ige follows him down he tries to fight him off and almost catches him clean with an upkick to survive until the end of the round. Landwehr still looks a bit wobbled as he goes back to his corner.
Round Three:
Body punch for Ige. Hard right from him. Landwehr throws punches and misses with a high kick. Landwehr presses forward and throws a punch but eats a counter.
Left hook and another punch from Ige. He lands to the body. Solid jab for Landwehr. Landwehr clinches for a moment and lands a hook on the way out.
Inside leg kick from Ige. Grazing right from Ige. Jab for Landwehr. They both exchange in close. Jab for Landwehr. He just misses with a knee that whizzes past Ige’s head.
Landwehr into the clinch against the cage. Elbows from him but Ige turns into him. They jockey for position and Landwehr lands another elbow before they break apart.
Jab for Ige. Now to the body. Spinning kick from Landwehr misses. Knee to the body from Landwehr but then loses his balance a bit.
Jab for Ige. leg kick for Landwehr. Kicks from Landwehr and Ige responds with a leg kick of his own.
Single-leg attempt from Landwehr but doesn’t commit to it and instead throws a punch. Muay thai clinch and a couple of knees from Landwehr. Landwehr attempts a takedown against the cage, but Ige drags his arm and tries to do the same to him. Neither going down though and they continue to work in the clinch with Landwehr landing a couple of solid rounds in the final seconds.
Decision:
No doubt about the winner here with Ige putting Landwehr down in the first and second rounds, but his opponent never stopped fighting and so he ultimately has to settle for a unanimous decision victory (29-28 x2, 30-27).
