Last week it seemed like there were serious doubts about whether a rumored fight between UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino and Holly Holm would happen after the Brazilian star walked away from negotiations due to monetary issues.
However, speaking after UFC 216 on Saturday night, Dana White seemed confident that the fight will happen.
“Yeah, yeah, I think we’ll get it done,” White told the media in attendance. “It’s not done yet. I can never predict what’s gonna happen, but I think we’ll get it done. Soon.”
It’s believed that officials had hoped to book the fight for UFC 219 on December 30th, and if White is correct and a deal is reached sooner rather than later then that date would still make the most sense.
‘Cyborg’ won the vacant 145lb title at UFC 214 in July with a TKO victory over former Invicta FC champion Tonya Evinger, extending her unbeaten run to 19 fights.
Holm has already fought for the featherweight title before, coming up short by way of a unanimous decision verdict against Germaine de Randamie back in February, but she’s since dropped back down to bantamweight and returned to winning ways by claiming a head kick KO victory against Bethe Correia in June.
