Last night’s final episode of the current season of the Contender Series produced only two new recruits for the UFC ranks from five fights.
Hailing from China, main event winner Maheshate was one of the two who battled his way to a contract after a three round battle with Achilles Estremadura.
Both fighters took damage during exchanges in the opening round, but then Maheshate started to take over, hurting his opponent with a flying knee in the second round and then outstruck him in the third to secure a unanimous decision victory (29-28 x3).
Also winning a contract on the night was co-main event victor Yohan Lainesse, who took just 97 seconds to stop Justin Burlinson courtesy of a left hook KO finish.
The craziest action of the night occurred further down the card as Jonas Bilharinho and Canaan Kawaihae forced a temporary halt to the action after suffering a simultaneous double groin strike that put them both down in the second round.
Then in the third round Bilharinho landed a picture-perfect spinning hook kick that floored his opponent for a highlight-reel finish, but despite that he left disappointed after Dana White opted not to give him a contract due to being underwhelmed with his performance prior to the stoppage.
