A bantamweight fight between Dominick Cruz and Pedro Munhoz has been targeted for the final pay-per-view of the year, UFC 269 on December 11th.
After an unsuccessful attempt to win back the title against Henry Cejudo last year, a fight which he lost by unanimous decision, Cruz did manage to get back to winning ways in March when he earned a split decision victory over Casey Kenney.
That was enough for the injury-jinxed 36-year-old to secure the No.10 spot on the bantamweight ladder, but with only fights under his belt in the last five years he needs more wins to get back into the title mix in the division.
As for Munhoz, his route to title contention has also become more challenging in recent times due to losing three of his past four fights.
To be fair to him, all of those fights were against high-ranking opposition, having lost on the scorecards to Aljamain Sterling, Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo, along with a victory against Jimmie Rivera.
As such, Munhoz currently lies one place above Cruz at No.9 on the 135lb ladder heading into this fight.
Cruz vs. Munhoz joins a UFC 269 card that will feature two title fights, with double champ Amanda Nunes seeking to defend her bantamweight belt against Julianna Pena, while there’s also a flyweight trilogy title encounter between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo on-board too.
