‘The Korean Superboy’ Doo-ho Choi earned a much-needed TKO victory over Bill Algeo tonight at UFC On ESPN 60.
Round One:
Light leg kick from Algeo. Now a body kick. He throws a couple of punches to disguise a takedown attempt up against the cage.
Choi jumps on a guillotine choke attempt as they go to the mat. Choi using this to get back up and is then able to reverse the clinch and press Algeo into the cage.
Nice takedown from Choi now. Algeo on all fours and trying to stand, but Choi sinks in a choke attempt. Algeo shakes his hand to indicate this isn’t a problem and sure enough soon after he breaks out of the submission and then is working to keep Choi on the mat.
Choi able to get back up against the cage. Again he turns into Algeo from the clinch position. Knee from Choi as they move off the cage and then an elbow.
Good punch and then a spinning elbow from Algeo! Choi does well to take those blows and now finds himself with his back up against the cage as Algeo works from clinch.
Algeo able to land a takedown. Choi trying to stand with his back against the cage and Algeo lands a couple of sneaky upward elbows.
Choi able to stand and threatens with a guillotine as he turns away from the cage. Knee from Choi. Choi jumps on this guillotine attempt, but Algeo slips out and ends the round on top.
Round Two:
Leg kick for Choi. Missed punches from Algeo. He threatens with ooks as Choi comes into range. Right hand from Choi and a low kick. Algeo with a leg kick too.
Counter left-hook from Algeo. Now a calf kick. He tries for a head kick but misses. Flurry from Algeo, but Choi is backing off so he can’t connect cleanly.
Another low kick for Algeo and Choi responds with one of his own. Body punch from Choi. Side kick to the body from Algeo. He misses with another kick and a spinning attack.
Calf kick from Choi. Head kick attempt from Algeo. jab for Choi. Spinning backfist grazes the target from Algeo.
Into the clinch and Choi works Algeo against the cage. Algeo down to his knees as Coi is thinking about a guillotine again.
Back on the feet Choi lands a good punch. One-two for Choi. Jab from Algeo. Algeo tries a spinning elbow that misses and then Choi lands a big left hook. Algeo immediately winces in pain and then sinks to the canvas clutching his face.
He’s had enough and this fight is over – Choi wins by TKO at 3.38mins of Rd2 – his first victory in eight years!
