Gray Maynard Moves Back To Lightweight For Nik Lentz Fight At UFC 229

UFC veteran Gray Maynard has decided to move back up to lightweight for his next fight against Nik Lentz at UFC 229 in Las Vegas on October 6th.

The 39-year-old Maynard is actually coming off a unanimous decision win over Teruto Ishihara in the featherweight division back in July of last year.

In total ‘The Bully’ went 2-1 during his brief stint at 145lbs, including also claiming a win over Fernando Bruno and suffering a loss to Ryan Hall.

Now he returns to the lightweight division for the first time since 2015, when the former two-time title contender was in the midst of an extremely rough spell in which he’d won just once in his last seven fights.

For his 155lb comeback fight he’ll be going up against another experienced veteran in Lentz, who has also had a stint in the featherweight division in the past, but has been back up at lightweight since late 2015, going 3-2 since then.

Along the way he’s earned wins over Danny Castillo, Danny McBride and Will Brooks, while suffering losses to Islam Makhachev and most recently David Teymur.

Maynard Vs Lentz joins a UFC 229 card that will be headlined by a blockbuster lightweight title encounter between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.
