A welterweight fight between Ian Garry and Vicente Luque has been announced for UFC 296 on December 16th in Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old Garry extended his unbeaten record to 13-0 last month when he earned a one-sided decision victory over Neil Magny at UFC 292.
That was Garry’s 6th win in a row since joining the UFC in late 2021, and 3rd in 2023 alone, having also TKO’d Song Keenan and Daniel Rodriguez too earlier in the year.
That’s left Garry placed at No.11 in the 170lb rankings heading into his next fight against Luque, who currently resides one place above him on the list at No.10.
The 31-year-old Luque was relieved to get back to winning ways with a unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos last month after suffering a big scare last year when he suffered a brain hemorrhage following a knockout loss against Geoff Neal.
That troubling diagnosis was only released to the public in the weeks leading up to his fight with RDA and shed light on why Luque had been out of action for a full year.
Garry vs. Luque joins an end-of-year UFC 296 show that will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington, while Alexandre Pantoja defends his flyweight title against Brandon Royval, Tony Ferguson faces Paddy Pimblett and Stephen Thompson squares off against Shavkat Rakhmonov.
