Irene Aldana vs. Karol Rosa Booked For UFC 296

The rapidly developing end-of-year UFC 296 event in Las Vegas on December 16th just gained another fight as former bantamweight title challenger Irene Aldana goes up against Karol Rosa.

The 35-year-old Aldana was last seen attempting to win the 135lb title from Amanda Nunes back in June, but though she made it to the final bell she was convincingly beaten by the retiring champion on the scorecards.

Aldana had gone into that title attempt after back-to-back wins against Yana Kunitskaya and Macy Chiasson, both of which had ended inside the distance via strikes.

Now the 5th ranked Aldana will be taking on the 28-year-old Rosa, who earned a split-decision victory over Yana Santos back in July, taking her overall UFC record so far to 6-2.

At this stage it’s not clear which division this fight will take place at, with Rosa having recently taken bouts at featherweight, though she’s frequently fought at bantamweight too.

Aldana vs. Rosa joins a stacked UFC 296 card that will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington, with flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja fighting Brandon Royval in the co-main event, while Stephen Thompson vs. Shavkhat Rakhmonov, Vicente Luque vs. Ian Garry and Paddy Pimblett vs Tony Ferguson also featuring on the star-studded line-up.
