Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones war of words has taken an uncomfortably personal turn in recent days as both fighters have started to bring the other’s family into the conversation.
Jones was the first to tread on thin ice when he mentioned Adesanya’s father on Twitter.
“I’m curious to hear what his father tells him when he asks about fighting me,” Jones wrote. “I wonder if his father believes he’s ready? Eugene definitely doesn’t.”
In response Adesanya went a step further by referencing Jones’ mother, who sadly passed away in 2017.
“My pops already told me how I’d beat you,” Adesanya replied. “Trust me he knows. Your mom would be disappointed in who you’ve become.
“So to get ahead of all the bullshit coming. My statement below. Lol if Jones has this much knowledge about the fight game and fame game he woulda known not to run back to the car to get the money and coke. Dumbass.”
Thankfully Jones so far hasn’t stopped lower than that in his responses so far, though there’s no doubt that it will have intensified the rivalry between them.
“Sitting with tens of millions of dollars, children on fire about Jesus Christ, one of the greatest martial artist and world history,” Jones responded. “Sure my mom is disappointed ♂️ why you mad bro?
“My mother was an amazing humanitarian. I know for a fact that the care project makes her more proud than anything I’ve done in the UFC.
“Izzy thanks for giving me the opportunity to highlight my amazing mother this afternoon, now I’m just missing her. Are we still on for 2021?”
