Jack Della Maddalena Wants Vicente Luque Fight Next

Jack Della Maddalena has quickly made a name for himself in the UFC ranks with four first-round victories in a row since joining from the Contender Series and now he’s calling for a high-profile fight with Vicente Luque next.

“I think Vicente Luque doesn’t have a fight. I think that would be a banger,” the 26-year-old Maddalena stated at he UFC 284 post-fight press conference.

Maddalena’s first-round submission on Saturday night ended Randy Brown’s own four-fight winning streak and as a result sees him step up into the welterweight rankings for the first time at No.14.

That’s five spots below the 31-year-old Luque, who by the end of 2021 was pushing towards title contention after four victories in a row, but came unstuck last year with back-to-back losses against Belal Muhammad and Geoff Neal.

So it’s certainly not out of the question that the UFC could look to make this fight, which on paper would appear to be guaranteed fighters between the two proven finishers, with Luque having stopped 19 of his 21 career victories inside the distance, while Maddalena has done the same in 13 of his 14 wins.

It remains to be seen if the UFC brass will get on-board with the idea, but in the mean time Maddalena is happy to revel in his 4th UFC win in the past 13 months.

“It’s definitely the biggest win of my career,” Maddalena said. “It’s the toughest test of my career, and yeah – it feels great.”
