Jack hermansson nicely played the long game against Joe Pyfer tonight in the main event of UFC Fight Night 236 to emerge with a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
The middleweight main event is underway in Las Vegas!
Low kick for Pyfer and now a solid hook. Hard calf kick lands for him and then a hard left hook behind it.
Body punch for Pyfer. Calf kick for Hermansson. Pyfer just misses on a big right hand. Body kick for Hermansson.
Superman punch attempt from Hermansson. Front kick to the body for Hermansson. Calf kick for Pyfer. Heavy left hook for Pyfer.
calf kick for Hermansson. Body punch for him. left hand for Pyfer. Groin kick lands accidentally from Hermansson, but Pyfer recovers quick and they get back to it.
They both trade punches without connecting cleanly. Now Pyfer continues to pressure and lands a right hand.
A rip to the body from Pyfer. Leg kick for Hermansson. jab for Pyfer. Pyfer comes up short with a couple of power punches, but then lands a jab.
Jab lands for Pyfer. Now a stepping left hook. Missed leg kick for Hermansson to end the round.
Round Two:
Body kick for Hermansson. Body punch for Pyfer. Jab for him. heavy left hook and a right hand behind it for Pyfer. Hermansson taking these well so far though.
Overhand right for Pyfer. Now Hermansson goes in on a single leg and moves over to the cage, but Pyfer stays upright and moves away. Pyfer with a little blood close to the right eye.
jabs exchanged. Pyfer just misses on an uppercut. Low kick for Hermansson. Head kick attempt from Pyfer was threatening.
Solid jabs to the body for Pyfer. Now one upstairs. Low kick for Hermansson. Calf kick for Pyfer.
calf kick for Hermansson. Light body kick for him. Pyfer applies pressure and throws off a few punches, but Hermansson keeps a solid guard to avoid most of that. Head kick from him comes off Pyfer’s arm.
Round Three:
Jab for Pyfer. Hermansson feeling out with his jab and then Pyfer lands a harder one. Grazing left hook from Pyfer off a jab from Hermansson.
Calf kick for Hermansson. calf kick again for him. He looks for it again but doesn’t get a clean connection. Overhand right for Pyfer. Nice jab from Hermansson off the back foot.
Hermansson lands a knee and right hand. Calf kick for Pyfer. jab for Pyfer and a low kick from Hermansson that seemed to bother Pyfer for a moment.
Punch lands for Hermansson and Pyfer backs up thinking he was eyepoked but the ref says to fight on.
Hermansson applying pressure now. In close Hermansson lands a nice right hand. Low kick for Hermansson. Glancing right hook from Pyfer.
Pyfer wades forward but Hermansson lands a push kick. Body punch for Pyfer. Now a solid left hand that knocks Hermansson off-balance for a split-second. Hermansson backing up now as Pyfer applies pressure.
Solid body punch for Pyfer and then upstairs. leg kick for Hermansson. Pyfer trying to get in on a takedown and Hermansson counters with a jumping knee just as the round is coming to an end.
Round Four:
Jab lands for Pyfer as Hermansson comes forward. Pyfer trying for a single-leg takedown but doesn’t get it.
Right hook for Pyfer but a low kick from Hermansson makes him stumble a little. jab for Hermansson. left hook for Pyfer.
Jab for Hermansson. Heavy body punch from Pyfer. Right hand for Hermansson. Solid jabs for Pyfer. Calf kick for Hermansson. Tight left hook for Pyfer and then gets into the clinch against the cage.
Jab for Hermansson as they come off the cage. Pyfer marching forward. Nice one-two for Hermansson. Jab for Pyfer and a calf kick for Hermansson.
Nice jab for Pyfer and then back into the clinch against the cage. They are back to striking range again. Hermansson lands the jab. He does so again. Now one from Pyfer. Good right hand for Hermansson. Now a leg kick. Pyfer’s nose bleeding now.
Oblique kick from Hermansson. jabs exchanged. A couple of left hand for Pyfer. Pyfer tries a takedown, but Hermansson defends it well.
calf kick again for Hermansson in the final 10 seconds and Pyfer lands one of his own.
Round Five:
Both swing and miss to start the final round. left hook lands for Pyfer. He gets it again. leg kick for him. Nice calf kick for Hermansson.
Jab for Hermansson. Another jab lands. Crisp jab again. Then back to the low kick. Hermansson has Pyfer backed up at the moment with three minutes remaining.
Missed right hand for Pyfer. Hermansson in on a takedown and lands it well right in the center of the Octagon. Smart move from him.
Hermansson in half-guard here with half the round remaining. Light punches to the head for Hermansson as he stays tight to his opponent.
Short elbows from Hermansson now. He continues to stay active with light ground-and-pound. Pyfer gets him back to his guard.
Final 10 seconds and Hermansson postures up and throws down a flurry of punches. We’re headed to the judges for the final decision of the night.
Decision:
Pyfer started well enough here, but Hermansson showed his veteran savvy skills as he stayed patient, invested in calf kicks and crisp, accurate jab to gradually shift the momentum of the fight in his favor as the rounds went on, leading him to a unanimous decision victory (48-47 x3).
