Jonathan Martinez showed off some of the heaviest kicks we’ve seen in a while against Cub Swanson tonight at UFC Fight Night 212, punishing him with thunderous blows to the leg that put his opponent down three times before the TKO stoppage.
Round One
Outside leg kick from Swanson to start. He lands another to the thigh. Martinez tries for a front kick upstairs tthat misses.
Solid body kick for Martinez and then another one, but slips on that, only to drive back up to his feet and press Swanson into the cage.
It’s not long before Martinez opts to retreat back to striking range though. Swanson rushes in with a brief flurry of punches. Now an oblique kick.
Long right hand from Swanson. Body kick for Martinez. Now a nice counter punch from him as Swanson is coming in.
Another heavy body kick from Martinez and Swanson counters by driving into a takedown and lands it.
Swanson in side control but Martinez does a really smooth reversal. He takes hold of the neck as Swanson is on one knee, but then they go back upright.
Kick and a couple of punches from Martinez. Nice punch from Swanson. Leg kick for Martinez. Hard strikes being traded now in the center of the Octagon.
Swanson drives in with a right hand. Martinez misses a head kick. Another driving punch from Swanson. Head kick attempt from Martinez that’s blocked.
Big power in all Martinez’s kicks. He tries again for the head kick, but it’s blocked again.Punch from Swanson. Swanson checks a big leg kick.
Leg kick for Swanson. Oblique kick from him. He lands a solid body punch too and Martinez lands a body kick.
Big punch connects for Martinez and more strikes behind it. In close Martinez lands a big knee and floors Swanson.
Martinez landing big strikes looking for a finish here. Swanson scrambling back up and eats more strikes. This could be stopped at any moment, but there’s only seconds remaining and the ref allows Swanson to make it out of the round.
Round Two:
Oblique kick and then a spinning one too behind it. Big body kick from Martinez. More strikes from Martinez and easily gets Swanson to the mat.
Martinez gradually gets him flat on his back in half-guard. He’s thinking about setting up an arm triangle. Swanson working from his back though and tries to get in a guillotine. Martinez shrugs that off though . Swanson gives up his back but gets to one knee while leaning against the cage and looks to stand.
Swanson upright and lands a knee. Martinez backs up. Oblique kick for Swanson. He lands a couple of hard punches and Martinez throws up a kick.
Punch for Swanson and now tries for a head kick. Solid body kick from Martinez. left hook for Swanson.
Powerful leg kick for Martinez and sinks to the mat from that then rises back up, only to be sunk again by another heavy leg kick.
Swanson back up again. They exchange strikes. Right hand for Swanson. Now a body kick. Heavy inside leg kick from Martinez floors Swanson and he’s in real pain there as he rolls to his back and seems to have had enough, eating a few more punches as the fight ends by TKO at 4.19mins of the second round.
Impressive power from Martinez there to take the fight out of a real veteran like Swanson with kicks to the leg.
