Featherweight champion Max Holloway will remain in the main event spot at UFC 218 on December 2nd in Detroit after former titlholder Jose Aldo agreed to step in on short notice to replace the injured Frankie Edgar.

Aldo was one of the first fighters to call for the fight on Twitter after learning that Edgar has suffered a facial injury, writing, “I want my title back. I deserve the rematch. Let’s make this happen.

The Brazilian star lost his belt to Holloway back in June by way of a third round TKO in a ‘Fight Of The Night’ performance at UFC 212.

Since then Aldo has spent time honing his boxing skills at famed coach Robert Garcia’s gym and has even floated the idea of switching to ‘the sweet science’ full-time when his current UFC contract expires.

He still has unfinished business in the Octagon for now though, and first and foremost that means gaining vengeance over Holloway, who has become something of an unstoppable force in the division over the past few years, racking up 11 victories in a row.

With Holloway Vs Aldo II signed, UFC 218 proceeds with a pay-per-view card that will also feature Alistair Overeem Vs Francis Ngannou, Henry Cejudo Vs Sergio Pettis, Eddie Alvarez Vs Justin Gaethje and Michelle Waterson Vs Tecia Torres.
