Kyle Nelson Beats Bill Algeo By TKO in Rd1 At UFC On ESPN 54

Kyle Nelson managed to secure a standing TKO finish in the first round against Bill Algeo tonight at UFC On ESPN 54 in Atlantic City.

Round One:

Algeo landing leg kicks, a body kick and misses on a head kick as he gets of to a typically fast start.

More kicks from him, but then Nelson lands a punch that knocks Algeo off-balance. Algeo write back to throwing kicks though and Nelson opts to clinch up against the cage.

A few strikes thrown in there and then back to striking range. Algeo launches into a combination, but Nelson moves out of range.

Body kick from Nelson. Algeo pressing forward. Another body kick from Nelson. He lands a punch too. Both land body kicks. Now each working a calf kick.

Overhand lands hard for Nelson and Algeo wobbles but somehow stays upright. Nelson not letting him off the hook as he presses forward landing more big strikes including a knee. Algeo so tough, but Nelson is starting to land at will as he connects with left and right hands.

Algeo staggering a little as he backs up, but still seeming to be willing and able to fight on for now. However the ref decides he’s seen enough and waves off the fight to hand Nelson a TKO victory at 4.00mins of the opening round.

That definitely felt a bit premature given that Algeo was upright and moving, but all credit to Nelson for landing that series of very powerful strikes to force the stoppage.
