Manon Fiorot was able to outland Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 280 today to earn a unanimous decision victory in the opening fight of the main card.
Round One:
Fiorot looking for punches straight away and then catches a kick from Chookagian. she’s unable to work anything from that though.
Fiorot again looking to let her hands go. Chookagian with a kick. More punches over the top from Fiorot as she rushes in applying pressure and tries to find her range. Punches to the body from Chookagian.
Again Chookagian throwing punches to the body. Chookagian maintaining distance with her kicks. Short flurry from Fiorot that doesn’t connect cleanly and then an oblique kick.
Fiorot with the oblique kick again. Now a side kick to the body. Chookagian looks for the jab. It’s Fiorot who lands her jab cleaner though and soon after goes back to the oblique kick.
Push kick for Chookagian. She steps into a right hand. Cuffing hook from Fiorot.
Fiorot applying more pressure and looking to land more punches. Chookagian with a kick upstairs that seemed to land, but Fiorot takes it well.
Side kick to the body from Fiorot. She goes back to that again and then a punch over the top. Kick lands for Chookagian.
Round Two:
Side kick to the body for Fiorot. Nice straight right lands for Chookagian. Grazing right hook from Fiorot.
Fiorot again looking for the right hook but misses. Chookagian targets the body. Fiorot comes up short with a flurry and lands the side kick.
Punch lands for Chookagian. Now she goes to the body with punches too. Leg kick lands for her. Nice one-two connects for Fiorot.
Right hand connects for Chookagian. Now a kick. Missed right hooks from Fiorot. she lands a pushing side kick to the body.
Left and a right gets through for Fiorot. Now a leg kick. Right hand for Chookagian. Punch from Fiorot and a nice left hand counter for Chookagian.
Solid straight left scores for Fiorot. Now a body kick from her. Fiorot moves her head to the side and lands a solid left hand.
Chookagian with a dig to the body. Jab for Fiorot. Grazing left hand from Fiorot. Inside leg kick for Chookagian.
Head movement from Fiorot to avoid Chookagian’s swatting punches. Side kick to the leg for Fiorot. She gets through with a nice left hook.
Chookagian misses an overhand and Fiorot lands a light counter punch.
Round Three:
Fiorot lands a straight left. She tries to follow up with more but comes up just short. Superwoman punch misses for Chookagian.
Fiorot lands another left. A few more punches miss, then back to the oblique kick. Glancing right hook lands as they get into close range for a moment.
Side kick to the body for Fiorot. Body punch from Chookagian. Right hand for Chookagian and then a head kick attempt that’s blocked. She tries it again without success.
Body punch for Fiorot. Oblique kick. Front kick attempt upstairs from Chookagian. Chookagian stepping in for a takedown, but Fiorot pushes her away.
Left hand from Fiorot just grazes the target. Right hand from Chookagian does the same.
Jab for Fiorot. Oblique kick. Chookagian with a series of straight punches but not much connecting.
Body punch for Chookagian. Chookagian marches forward throwing punches, but still struggling to find the mark.
Inside leg kick for Chookagian and then one on the outside. Punch for Fiorot. Fiorot suddenly surprises Chookagian by landing a takedown in the center of the Octagon. Good work from her, but Chookagian gets up fairly quickly.
Glancing blows from Fiorot. Side kick to the body. Chookagian tries a front kick upstairs. Now a head kick but both don’t find the target.
Fiorot clinches up in the final few seconds and presses Chookagian into the cage, landing a knee to the body before the final horn.
Decision:
Fiorot was active in the first round, but struggled to find her range. In the rounds that followed though she was able to adjust her sights and start to find the mark more often, while continuing to push the pace and that leads her to a unanimous decision victory (29-28 x3).
