A bantamweight fight between Marlon Vera and former champion Dominick Cruz has been targeted to headline UFC Fight Night 212 on August 13th.
Vera had gone on record recently claiming that Cruz had been turning down offers to fight him on multiple occasions due to his rankings in the division, but Cruz has since refuted that, claiming that he doesn’t turn down opponents, only dates of fights that don’t fit in with his schedule.
Whatever the case, it seems that the two are now set on a collision course at a time when Vera is in fine form, having now racked up three wins in a row.
That run began with a unanimous decision victory over Davey Grant and he’s since added to that with a front kick KO of Frankie Edgar and most recently a unanimous decision win against Rob Font.
As for Cruz, he’s coming off back-to-back victories, with a split decision win over Casey Kenney being followed by a unanimous decision victory against Pedro Munhoz.
That leaves Cruz ranked No.8 in the division, two places below Vera, who has moved his way up to the No.5 spot.
Vera vs. Cruz will front a UFC Fight Night 212 show that doesn’t yet have a confirmed location, but will also feature Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo and Sara McMann vs. Aspen Ladd.
