Mike Malott vs. Neil Magny Booked In The Works For UFC 297

A fight between Mike Malott and Neil Magny has been targeted for UFC 297 in Toronto, Canada on January 20th.

The 31-year-old Malott made his way into the UFC via the Contender Series back in 2021 and has since gone on to compile a three-fight winning streak in the welterweight ranks.

Along the way he’s TKO’d Mickey Gall in the opening round, followed by a 1st round submission of Yohan Lainesse and then most recently earned another submission win over Adam Fugitt to take his overall career record to 10-1-1.

Now Malott will be taking a step up in competition against a true welterweight veteran in Magny, who is coming off a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Ian Machado Garry at UFC 292 back in August.

That continues a recent pattern of alternating between wins and losses for the 36-year-old Magny, having picked up wins over Max Griffin, Daniel Rodriguez and Philip Rowe, while also suffering submission losses against Shavkat Rakhmonov and Gilbert Burns.

Malott vs. Magny joins a UFC 297 card that was expected to be headlined by featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski against Ilia Topuria, though whether that fight goes ahead or not now very much depends on how Volkanovski does in his short-notice UFC 294 lightweight title rematch against Islam Makhachev this weekend.
