Pat Sabatini dominated Lucas Almeida on the mat tonight at UFC On ESPN 47 with his wrestling and grappling, leading to a submission finish in the second round.
Round One:
Sabatini ducks under a punch to get to the clinch and drives Almeida over to the cage. Sabatini works for the body lock and then lands a nice takedown.
Sabatini in side control here as Almeida tries to stand, but then opts to just get him to half-guard.
Light punches from Sabatini. He eventually steps into full mount and is immediately brought back into half-guard. Again Sabatini is able to step into full mount. Almeida almost gives up his back and Sabatini blasts him with punches and then a couple of heavy elbows too.
Sabatini dropping down some more nasty elbows here and Almeida is barely hanging on in there, but manages to survive until the end of the round.
Round Two:
Sabatini immediately into a single-leg attempt then settles for driving Almeida into the cage. He’s trying for a trip, but Almeida staying upright for now. Finally Sabatini does get the trip and is in half-guard on top. He lands a punch and Almeida attempts to scramble, but it’s Sabatini who moves to side control.
Sabatini lands a big elbow that opens up a cut and then goes for an arm triangle submission that forces Almeida to quickly tap out at 1.48mins of Rd2.
