Rafael dos Anjos vs. Mateus Gamrot Booked For UFC 299

Rafael dos Anjos will drop back down to the lightweight division for his next fight against Mateus Gamrot at UFC 299 on March 9th.

Dos Anjos has been competing at 170lbs for his last two fights, starting with a 2nd round submission win over Bryan Barberena, followed by a unanimous decision loss to Vicente Luque in August.

The former lightweight champion’s last appearance at 155lbs was in July of 2022 where he suffered a 5th round KO loss at the hands of Rafael Fiziev, but even with his brief hiatus from the division since then the 39-year-old is still ranked No.11.

Now he’ll be going up against the 6th ranked Gamrot, who has earned back-to-back wins in his 2023 campaign starting with a split-decision win over Jalin Turner and then beating Rafael Fiziev by TKO in September.

All of which means that Gamrot has now won seven of his last eight fights in the division as he continues to push upwards in the hope of getting into title contention at 155lbs.

Dos Anjos vs. Gamrot joins a UFC 299 card that is rumored to be taking place in Miami and will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.
